Your Permission Is Granted

The central theme of this discourse revolves around the notion that individuals often find themselves in a state of inertia, predominantly due to their incessant quest for permission to embark on their desired paths. It is posited that the life one seeks is actively seeking them, yet many remain paralyzed, awaiting validation from external sources rather than embracing their intrinsic right to pursue their aspirations. The speaker elucidates the fallacy that permission will arrive unbidden, emphasizing that true empowerment lies in the act of granting oneself the authority to initiate change. By relinquishing the need for external approval, one can liberate themselves from the shackles of self-doubt and societal expectations, thus fostering a more authentic existence. Ultimately, the episode serves as a clarion call for listeners to seize their agency and catalyze the transformations they yearn for without further delay.

Most people aren't waiting for certainty.

They're waiting for permission.

Permission to change.

Permission to begin.

Permission to create.

Permission to charge more.

Permission to leave.

Permission to become.

The challenge?

Most of the time, that permission never arrives.

In this episode, we're exploring why confidence often follows action, how our environment quietly reinforces who we believe ourselves to be, and why Human Design and our surroundings can either support or hinder who we're becoming.

We'll discuss the promises we make to ourselves, the stories we continue to carry, and the surprising freedom that comes from realizing no one else gets to authorize your next chapter.

The life you're asking permission for may already be asking for you.

Pour yourself something warm, settle in, and join me for a conversation about trust, change, and becoming more fully yourself.

Speaker A:

The life you are asking permission for is already looking for you.

Speaker A:

Most people aren't waiting for certainty, they're waiting for approval.

Speaker A:

Permission will never come knocking on your door.

Speaker A:

Sound familiar?

Speaker A:

You are listening to episode 58 of the Ritual House Rules.

Speaker A:

Hi everyone and welcome back to the show.

Speaker A:

If you are new here, thank you so much for joining in.

Speaker A:

And if you have been here since the beginning, I thank you so much for your support and following me on my journey of the Ritual House Rules.

Speaker A:

So let's get into today's podcast.

Speaker A:

So today I want to talk about something that I feel keeps people more stuck than lack of information, a lack of resources, or or even your lack of confidence.

Speaker A:

And that is permission.

Speaker A:

I did an Instagram video the other day on Permission, and I forget how many views it got, but I still wanted to touch on it because I feel like it's a really big deal.

Speaker A:

From my own experience and from things that I've read online and just watching other people's Instagrams, I have to say, a lot of people are out there and they're just waiting for someone to say, okay, now it's the right time to do the thing that you think you should be doing, or now is the right time for you to start exercising, or now is the right time for you to start cleaning out your house or writing the book that you've always wanted to write, or plan the vacation that you've always wanted to go on.

Speaker A:

It's always based on someone else saying, okay, now I think you should start doing that.

Speaker A:

And I feel like if more of us just took the initiative when we felt like we needed to do something.

Speaker A:

And again, like I said in my video the other day, I'm not talking about going out and being reckless and doing things that are not in our best interest, or our family's best interest, or our friend's best interest.

Speaker A:

I'm talking about the things that are genuinely good for us, that can only propel us forward.

Speaker A:

We somehow feel like we have to wait for someone to tell us that it's okay to change, or it's okay to leave something that we're not happy doing, or it's okay to start something new that we actually enjoy, or it's okay to charge more.

Speaker A:

If you are an entrepreneur and you offer services and you feel like the rest of the world is charging XYZ and you feel like it's just as important for you to stay current with everyone else's prices and you want to up your charges, then I think you have a right to do that.

Speaker A:

If you want to create something new, if you want to create something different.

Speaker A:

I think you get where I'm going with this.

Speaker A:

We all need to stop waiting for that permission slip to do the thing that we're doing.

Speaker A:

We're all adults.

Speaker A:

I think it's time for us to take back our own power and will and belief in ourselves to do the thing.

Speaker A:

No one is going to officially show up at my door with a certificate that declares me qualified to pursue the thing that I've been called to do.

Speaker A:

And I've seen plenty of times where someone is a hundred percent qualified to do XYZ thing.

Speaker A:

And maybe they're not great at it.

Speaker A:

Maybe they didn't even want to do it from the very beginning, but they were talked into it, or their parents made them do it, or whatever the scenario might be.

Speaker A:

No one is going to send us an email and say, hey, I think you should.

Speaker A:

Now is the time.

Speaker A:

I'm going to grant you permission to go and plan that trip that you feel like you've always wanted to go and do.

Speaker A:

Maybe somebody might.

Speaker A:

Maybe your spouse or your partner or whoever it is is like, hey, you know that trip we've been saying we're going to plan?

Speaker A:

I think we should start doing it.

Speaker A:

I don't mean it in a permission way like that.

Speaker A:

That's just a.

Speaker A:

Let's just do the thing that we said we were going to do.

Speaker A:

I'm talking about someone saying to you, I'm going to grant you permission so that you can go do this.

Speaker A:

And believe me, this is all very familiar to me because this is what I used to do.

Speaker A:

I thought that I would wait for people to tell me, oh, Caroline, I think that's a great idea for you to do.

Speaker A:

And probably nine times out of 10, I would never hear that.

Speaker A:

So guess what?

Speaker A:

I never did the things.

Speaker A:

And if I did do the things, I didn't do them with the full belief that what I was really doing, I was either good at or I was meant to do the thing.

Speaker A:

And one day I just decided.

Speaker A:

I just decided that I was going to start doing the things that I really wanted to do.

Speaker A:

And the only person that I needed permission from was myself.

Speaker A:

Because everyone else will just figure it out.

Speaker A:

And if they don't figure it out, then that's not really my problem.

Speaker A:

If this is something that I truly want to do, then, and it makes me happy, then this is what I am moving forward with.

Speaker A:

So as I have been building ritual house and developing different types of client experiences and Writing and recording and creating and trying new things and posting different things on Instagram and trying to figure out all the algorithms, which I am convinced there literally aren't any.

Speaker A:

I think it's like this just big, I don't know, conspiracy to just confuse all of us.

Speaker A:

And eventually people just get so frustrated, they just don't do it anymore.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

But I'm doing what I think is right.

Speaker A:

I'm doing what I think moves the needle.

Speaker A:

And as long as I'm seeing growth in certain areas, then I guess something must be working.

Speaker A:

And one other thing, I feel like we wait to see evidence of something or proof that something is actually going to work.

Speaker A:

And when we don't see the thing working, then we just automatically assume, well, you see, I told you.

Speaker A:

We give our subconscious the permission to remind us that, you see, it didn't work.

Speaker A:

I told you it wasn't going to work.

Speaker A:

That's really not how it works.

Speaker A:

The only way that we are going to see change is if we just keep showing up to do the thing that it is that we have given ourselves permission to do.

Speaker A:

If you are starting a workout for the first time and you go to the gym day one, I think the only thing that might change that day that you go to the gym is your attitude or your temporary dopamine hit.

Speaker A:

But then tomorrow morning you're going to wake up and that dopamine level is not going to be there anymore.

Speaker A:

So you're going to have to convince yourself or try to remember what that felt like to convince you to go back for day two.

Speaker A:

And if it wasn't a positive enough experience, there's a really good chance, or you made yourself so sore that you don't want to go back, there's a really good chance that you're going to procrastinate and not go back to the gym.

Speaker A:

So why do I say that?

Speaker A:

I say that because in order for us to see evidence that whatever it is that we are doing that we've finally given ourselves permission to do is not readily in front of us, there's a good chance we're not going to keep doing it.

Speaker A:

But what I'm here to tell you is that the evidence will start to show itself, but it's going to start showing itself after you continue to show up and show up and show up.

Speaker A:

It's not going to be this instantaneous evidence building activity.

Speaker A:

I know you want to hear that, but for me, I have been doing this podcast off and on for the last three years and I have not been consistent.

Speaker A:

I will be honest.

Speaker A:

I have not been consistent.

Speaker A:

But I finally made the decision.

Speaker A:

I gave myself permission to say, okay, now, this is.

Speaker A:

This is what we really want.

Speaker A:

This is what we're going for.

Speaker A:

And I have to tell you, I have never seen my podcast numbers grow like this, ever, in my entire existence of my podcast.

Speaker A:

And it's very exciting because I'm finally starting to see the needle move.

Speaker A:

But when I first started back, there was zero evidence that I was even making a dent in what I was doing.

Speaker A:

And to people that have millions of followers and millions of downloads a day, and they're listening to this, or maybe they wouldn't even listen to this.

Speaker A:

I don't even know.

Speaker A:

But if they listen to this, they would.

Speaker A:

They would probably be like, oh, my gosh, is this girl really serious?

Speaker A:

Like, she's so excited over X, Y, Z thing.

Speaker A:

Yeah, I am.

Speaker A:

Because you know what?

Speaker A:

I'm proud of myself for continuing to show up even on the days where maybe I knew that there might be five listeners or six listeners or maybe none, and it was just me saying to myself, this is what you want to do, and you're going to keep doing it, and eventually the evidence will speak for itself.

Speaker A:

So when you show up again and again and you keep your appointment with yourself in doing whatever it is that you are doing, you are showing up at your writing session to start outlining your book, you are recording your podcast.

Speaker A:

You are taking the daily walk like you said you were going to.

Speaker A:

You make the call to look into doing something about a new career.

Speaker A:

All of these things are accumulated, and your confidence builds with every single little step that you take, moving in that direction and whatever direction that means for you.

Speaker A:

What I find fascinating is that people will tell me that they're just waiting until they feel ready to do the thing.

Speaker A:

And my friends, readiness is a moving target, because there's always going to be something that's going to move the target to make you not ready.

Speaker A:

And unfortunately, that is our subconscious, because it tricks us into thinking, oh, if I put this obstacle in front of them, it's going to throw them for a loop again.

Speaker A:

And then I'm not going to have to do the thing that I keep saying I'm going to do.

Speaker A:

And we don't feel ready because we've sabotaged ourself.

Speaker A:

And then we just keep surviving in the same scenario day in and day out that we have found ourselves in all these years.

Speaker A:

Your environment plays a big role more than you probably realize.

Speaker A:

Our surroundings are constantly Reminding us and communicating with us about who we've been, what we've prioritized, what we've tolerated, what we've accepted.

Speaker A:

And if we are trying to become this new version of ourself in an environment that's designed for the old version of ourselves, it's going to be incredibly difficult.

Speaker A:

And this is why I love to pair human design with, with my Feng shui.

Speaker A:

Not because it's telling us who we need to be and what color we need to paint our room, but because it helps us to remove the friction.

Speaker A:

It helps us to create conditions and spaces and understandings of our own blueprint that support who we are becoming.

Speaker A:

And maybe that's the real question.

Speaker A:

Not what am I waiting for, but who am I waiting for to tell me permission to do the thing?

Speaker A:

And that's what we don't want.

Speaker A:

Because if we are going to wait for someone to approve our next chapter in our own lives, we could wait forever and we would never do the thing.

Speaker A:

And that's going to be the worst feeling, is the regret of you never taking that first step in actually doing the thing that you really want to do.

Speaker A:

The opportunities, the ideas, the businesses, the relationships, the dreams, the creative projects, they are all waiting for you to start them.

Speaker A:

And the only thing that is left is for you to take the initiative and to do the thing.

Speaker A:

I want to leave you with a question, and the question is, what would you do or change this week if your permission was not required?

Speaker A:

Not something that you would do next year, not someday, but this week?

Speaker A:

What would you begin?

Speaker A:

What conversations would you have?

Speaker A:

What decision would you make and what dream would you stop postponing?

Speaker A:

Because I have a suspicion, and that is the permission that you've been waiting for to do what?

Speaker A:

Whatever it is that you have been wanting to do is not going to come from anyone else.

Speaker A:

You are going to be the person that grants your own permission to do the thing.

Speaker A:

I hope that this episode today, although it was somewhat short for me, but I hope that it has inspired you to take a look at your own surroundings, your life, and the decisions that you have made or have yet to make.

Speaker A:

We are halfway through:

Speaker A:

And it all starts with you and your willingness to stop letting all the fluff, all the peripheral to block you from actually fulfilling all the potential that you have in your own life.

Speaker A:

I just finished Shui school, which was a eight week program that was just the Basics of Feng Shui and human design that is still available.

Speaker A:

It is.

Speaker A:

If you go back to the podcast, you can look in the history of the episodes and you will see it.

Speaker A:

I forget which episode it starts on, but that is there.

Speaker A:

If you would like to look at that.

Speaker A:

There is also.

Speaker A:

I'll put the on the resource page with the show notes.

Speaker A:

There will be a resource page of all different kinds of things.

Speaker A:

Speaker A:

Everything on the resource page is free.

Speaker A:

You can do the archetype quiz and that will give you send you.

Speaker A:

After you finish taking the quiz, you'll get a download of what your profile is and you can read up on that Once you know your human design profile.

Speaker A:

Speaker A:

If you would like to have access to that.

Speaker A:

That is also there.

Speaker A:

There's lots of things that are available to you that are free.

Speaker A:

And there is also poolside bingo, which I think is fun for the summer.

Speaker A:

There will be a new bingo card out next week and on Fridays I do shorter episodes called Poolside prophecies.

Speaker A:

And that's fun.

Speaker A:

Episodes, different topics and that's about it.

Speaker A:

So if you have questions, you can reach me at the Ritual House Rules on Instagram.

Speaker A:

I am.

Speaker A:

I am the one that is answering the dm so you will hear from me.

Speaker A:

No robots.

Speaker A:

And I think that that is it today.

Speaker A:

So I hope you enjoyed this episode and I hope you have a great week.

Speaker A:

And remember, most people who want to change will never look at themselves or their own immediate surroundings.

Speaker A:

They will go looking elsewhere.

Speaker A:

And elsewhere is not going to be the answer.

Speaker A:

You have to start at home or your surroundings first and yourself and then you can look outward.

Speaker A:

So with that, have a beautiful rest of your day and thank you so much for being here and have a great rest of your week.
